It seems ever since the final ep of MASH, that the series finale seems to be
really important. Makes sense. We get to know the characters. For lack of a
better term, they become part of the family. And expectations for the series
finale are huge. And they seem to often times really fall short. I can't
comprehend how hard it would be to write the final, wrap it all up show. The
problem, as I see it, is that life goes on. The cameras turn off, but the
universe lives on. What happened to Hawkeye after he went home?

I wondered all day how the final ep of SFU would play out, considering how
in flux the characters all seemed to be. How could it be wrapped up in a
tidy package? And, in my eyes, the first hour was typical series finale
fare. Transitions. Moving on. Problems being solved. And I admittedly teared
up at the goodbye scene. Claire's anguish was played to the painful hilt. I
assumed that was it. She dries off into the sunset. Goodbye SFU.

But it kept going. And it suddenly all came together. We got to see their
lives. All in a quick cut 5 minutes. That basically showed the essence of
the show. Everyone dies. No one gets out alive.

In my opinion the finest, most fitting series finale ever.

I couldn't agree more Red. I bawled, and bawled, and bawled when those
last five minutes happened. I spent the last five shows wondering what
would become of them all. I had already begun mourning the characters
and was wondering how the rest of their lives went on. In a way I was
pissed at the last five minutes because it meant that there would never
be a SFU reunion or spin-off. That was that. But, I was more thrilled
to acually know what happens to these 'people' that I've grown to care
about. I've found myself thinking about how they got to the end now,
how they lived in those years from 2005 on. I've never experienced a
more moving television show (I liked MASH, but I was too young to
appreciate it fully). SFU lives on in my heart, and will for a very
long time.
