just something I remembered & wanted to post.
On a cruise ship trip, once with a group , one of the men died of a heart
attack , his cabin was 2 doors down from us, / his wife said all she heard
was him exclaim "oh ohhh", & he was down & out...
all in all,, that is probably how I'd like to go....

Except that for that "oh ohhh" time period he was probably in pain albeit
brief and probably knew what was happening to him, albeit brief fear...
nah, I'll take dying in my sleep overall.

my mom has a friend who's husband passed away at home many years ago. he
had something like 5 kids, and called them into his room one by one to say
goodbye. while talking to child #4 he said oh shit, #5 is gonna be pissed.
and then he passed away. but i thought that was a nice way to go, at home,
in your own bed, taking the time to talk to your wife, and kids, one by one
and say goodbye.

Talk about morbid curiosity...

But if you die a sudden death things will happen too fast for you to
see what's happening (just ask anyone who's been in a car crash and
lives and doesn't remember anything.)

You can die a slow tortuous death by cancer but then you're sense of
reality will be too fucked up in the end to really know what's going
on.

Try hiring a hitman...

Just what does the cruiseline do to get a corpse home? do they dock right
away and fly the corpse and wife home?

Might be an ideal way to die, dying doing something you love, but the poor
wife is alone trying to cope with this... and what a way to ruin a vacation.
Hopefully at least die on your last day on the ship so you really got to
enjoy the whole time. :-(

Nah, put it on ice - they have plans for this sort of thing.

Maybe even a burial at sea?

I would imagine if the family were willing to pay, a medi-vac off the ship
could be arranged. Who'd want to continue on after something like this
occured?

the cruiselines DO have several coffins onboard just for this.

in the case of our friend,, Tampa was the port we left out of.
but he died at sea ( not sure if it was before or after cozumel).. but our
last port was New Orleans, ( before returning to Tampa). since this was the
1st American port, he was taken off there & then flown home .

They gave the wife another cabin to stay in, while onboard,, ( as he died in
their cabin)... She dealt with it very stoically ,, and mingled with the
rest of us off & on for the rest of the cruise.

ironic thing was is 'he' was the pax off the ship right before we got off in
port ... when you get off of a ship you run your ID in the shipboard
console, so they know who got off & then who didn't get back onboard.. his
ID picture was on the monitor as we ran our Id's in......... *spooky*,, the
coroner van was parked on the dock.

anyway...... for anyone taking a cruise this is ONE reason among others why
you buy cruise insurance........ all that happened with him must have cost
in the $10,000"s (just a docs visit at infirmary is $100 an hour,,,,,)

Medicare doesn't cover health care on cruises?
